Global gaming startup investments are showing a modest recovery in 2026, surpassing total 2025 funding with approximately $2 billion raised, largely driven by AI-focused funding rounds.

Gaming Startup Investments Rise Modestly In 2026

Global gaming-related startup investments are showing signs of recovery in 2026, bouncing back from a multi-year low recorded last year.

Year-to-date, companies within this sector have secured approximately $2 billion across seed- to growth-stage funding rounds. This figure has already surpassed the total raised during all of 2025, largely propelled by substantial financing rounds secured by enterprises operating where artificial intelligence and gaming intersect.

Lead fundraisers

A handful of exceptionally large funding rounds account for a disproportionately large portion of the capital accumulated this year.

Meshy AI, a Sunnyvale, California-based creator of foundation models designed for AI-driven 3D generation, secured the top spot by raising $400 million in a July Series B round that valued the company at $1.5 billion. Although not exclusively a gaming enterprise, Meshy explicitly markets gaming as a primary application for its 3D AI agent.

Decart, an AI model training platform developer, also captured strong investor interest with a $300 million raise. Headquartered in Israel, Decart is similarly not a dedicated gaming pure-play, but it is recognized for video simulation technology considered highly attractive for game development.

At the same time, several traditional gaming startups secured spots among the largest funding rounds. These include Nex, a motion-based family game developer that wrapped up a $150 million round last week, and Grand Games, a Turkish mobile gaming studio that secured $70 million in May. A breakdown of nine prominent funding recipients this year is outlined below.

Investors are also scaling up

Venture capitalists specializing in gaming are successfully drawing in new capital as well. Last month, San Francisco-based Makers Fund closed a notable raise, gathering $250 million for its fourth flagship fund. This finalization builds on a track record of profitable investments, such as an early seed stake in Dream Games—the maker of the viral puzzle game—which eventually achieved a $5 billion exit valuation.

Makers Fund maintains an active investment pace, participating in at least 10 documented rounds this year according to Crunchbase figures. Their investments encompass high-profile startups like Novig, a sports betting platform that recently generated buzz through a contentious advertising campaign.

Earlier in the year, Griffin Gaming Partners revealed a capital raise of its own, capturing $100 million dedicated to independent games. The organization’s Special Opportunities Fund aims to supply financial backing in exchange for a percentage of a game’s future revenue, an arrangement designed to offer a more attractive financing framework for indie studios.

The beginning of an up cycle?

Altogether, although investment in gaming startups stays well beneath the record highs experienced a few years back, the meaningful year-over-year growth offers a positive sign. The trajectory of current funding metrics suggests the early stages of a market recovery.
