Dextr AI Secures $6.7M for Hotel Automation Technology

Dextr AI has emerged from stealth mode with $6.7 million in seed capital led by Elevation Capital to scale its hospitality automation technology, which utilizes artificial intelligence agents to manage hotel operations.

Dextr AI Secures $6.7M for Hotel Automation Technology

When Sajid Shariff returned to the Bay Area in 2024, he reconnected with acquaintances from his background in hospitality. Upon asking what had transformed since his departure during the pandemic, he learned that hotels continued to grapple with escalating labor expenses, staffing shortages, and the constant push to generate additional revenue.

In response, Shariff volunteered to develop an artificial intelligence agent for a couple of locations. The initial tool, named Alfred, responded to visitor inquiries and assisted with check-in and check-out procedures. Within a 90-day window, he noted that online reviews experienced improvements at both sites. He subsequently rolled out the technology to additional hotels before concluding that guest messaging represented only a fraction of the market potential.

That initiative prompted him to partner with Scott Arnold to establish Dextr AI, a San Francisco-based startup launched in July 2025. The enterprise is now coming out of stealth mode backed by $6.7 million in seed capital to create agents capable of managing reservations, visitor inquiries, internal staff coordination, and other hospitality operations. Elevation Capital spearheaded the investment, with participation from Foundation Capital. This milestone signifies Dextr’s inaugural institutional funding round.

From guest requests to bookings

Following initial guest management implementations, Dextr expanded into incoming telephone communications by introducing a voice-based reservation agent titled Daisy. Shariff discovered that when a caller seeks details regarding a reservation or information missing from a booking platform, resolving the query can directly result in a reservation. As hospitality operators adopted Daisy, he recognized that phone interactions were effectively driving revenue.

Presently, a major hotel utilizing Dextr’s services processes between $100,000 and $300,000 monthly in reservations through the voice agent, according to Shariff.

Dextr has since broadened its offerings to include agents tailored for group bookings, employee management, and supplementary tasks. The overarching objective is to interconnect these agents so that details gathered within one hotel department can trigger appropriate actions in another. For instance, should a visitor decline housekeeping services, the guest management agent can relay that update to operations software to automatically adjust employee work schedules.

An alternative scenario involves a property operating in the absence of an overnight front desk attendant. A late-arriving guest can phone the hotel, have Daisy authenticate their booking, and obtain directions for accessing their guestroom. Daisy and Alfred, the company’s guest management agent, collaborate to facilitate the arrival process.

For specific locations, deploying agents to manage late arrivals can eliminate the necessity of maintaining an overnight front desk shift. Shariff calculated that such a shift can entail expenses ranging from $70,000 to $80,000 annually within markets like California.

“It was very hard to hire for these shifts to begin with,” he stated.

Building ROI

Shariff maintains that combining multiple agents constitutes one of three primary factors differentiating Dextr from alternative hospitality AI solutions. While an agent answering calls or messages successfully executes a distinct assignment, linking it to complementary agents unlocks broader functionalities for a location.

“It’s important that we do multiple use cases to see the higher ROI,” he shared during an interview with Crunchbase News.

The second differentiator, as outlined by Shariff, involves Dextr’s methodology for deploying the agents. Operationalizing them requires more than merely installing software applications. Every hotel operates uniquely regarding reservation management, staff assignments, and visitor service handling. Consequently, Dextr dispatches engineers to collaborate directly with clients, pinpoint areas where agents add value, and integrate them with legacy systems. These engineers remain engaged as the site implements the agents to pursue applications capable of yielding a return on investment.

“Every property, every operation is different in this space,” he remarked. Dextr establishes integrations with property management platforms such as Oracle Hospitality, OPERA Cloud, StayNtouch, Cloudbeds, and Hostaway.

The third distinction centers on how personnel interact with the agents. Staff members can issue instructions via text or voice utilizing a companion tool known as Doss, bypassing the need to master multi-step procedures within unfamiliar software architectures. Shariff highlighted that high staff turnover complicates the training process for complex tools and causes the loss of institutional knowledge when workers depart. Utilizing Doss allows users to “call it, you can talk to it, you can text it,” he explained.

Hotels and more

Dextr reports that its agents currently facilitate over 1 million interactions monthly spanning hundreds of hotels. The startup’s client roster encompasses properties ranging from a 21-room boutique location to a 550-room establishment. Clientele features independent hotels alongside properties operating under the Hilton, Wyndham, Best Western, and IHG banners, in addition to reservation bureaus, vacation rentals, and outdoor hospitality enterprises.

The company engages directly with owners and operators of these branded locations, according to Shariff, and is establishing its first direct partnership with a major hotel brand whose identity he chose not to reveal. Furthermore, the firm collaborates with property management companies, reservation hubs, vacation rentals, and outdoor hospitality sites including campgrounds, recreational vehicle parks, lodges, and golf facilities.

The enterprise bills clients through a subscription model scaled by property size and deployed agents, alongside usage-based fees for select agents. Shariff opted not to disclose figures regarding revenue, profitability, or the round’s valuation. Following a prior year heavily focused on pilot programs, he noted that Dextr accelerated its growth pace this spring, observing that annual recurring revenue has been expanding at approximately 20% to 30% month over month, though exact figures were withheld.

Dextr intends to allocate the newly secured capital toward recruiting additional customer-facing engineers, broadening software integrations, and engineering supplementary agents. The internal team has expanded from three members a year ago to a total of 21.

Krishna Mehra, an artificial intelligence partner at Elevation Capital, informed Crunchbase News that Dextr’s early market traction captured the firm’s attention, highlighting clients utilizing the agents to generate bookings and upsell opportunities while simultaneously lowering operational expenses.

“What stood out immediately was Sajid and Scott’s execution. Dextr scaled to [hundreds of] contracted properties and meaningful ARR without raising a single dollar,” he communicated via email. “In a space where most AI companies are still searching for product-market fit, Dextr had customers, zero churn, and a clear ROI story. That combination of founder quality and early traction is exactly what we look for at Elevation.”
