Cybersecurity Firms Secure $6.8B in Q3 Led by Large Rounds

Amid persistent global digital insecurity, investors are ramping up their financial commitments to the cybersecurity sector.

According to Crunchbase figures, global privacy and cybersecurity startups secured a combined $6.8 billion during the third quarter of 2026. This represents a roughly 50% increase compared to the previous quarter, matching the highest quarterly totals recorded in recent years.

This financial surge was driven by larger transaction sizes rather than an increase in deal volume. Crunchbase records indicate that the total number of funding rounds actually dropped across every development stage during the previous quarter.

Biggest cybersecurity fundraisers

Artificial intelligence companies secured the vast majority of cybersecurity capital, with a strong emphasis on identity security. In total, at least 18 enterprises combining AI and cybersecurity successfully closed financing events of $100 million or greater last quarter.

Enterprise identity security provider Keyfactor emerged as by far the largest beneficiary, securing a $1 billion growth round in July led by Summit Partners. Established in 2001, the Ohio-based enterprise is not a traditional startup, though it has gathered most of its venture backing over the past decade alongside its more recent strategic pivot toward AI.

Dallas-based Island shared second place after securing a $400 million Series F financing in September, led by Evolution Equity Partners. The enterprise, which provides software allowing businesses to monitor and manage how human workers and AI agents engage with data and applications, also reached a post-money valuation of $6.4 billion.

Simultaneously, Cyera—developer of an enterprise data security platform tailored for AI agents—revealed a new $400 million investment led by Goldman Sachs Growth Equity in September, arriving just three months after a previous $600 million raise. This most recent capital injection established a $12 billion valuation for the New York-based startup.

Exits, too

The past quarter also featured substantial acquisitions within the cybersecurity startup space, despite a largely dormant initial public offering market.

Visa spearheaded merger and acquisition activity in August by acquiring anti-fraud software developer BioCatch for $2.4 billion. This purchase forms part of Visa’s wider initiative to strengthen its fraud prevention tools for the era of artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, private unicorn Cyera demonstrated its ability to deploy newly secured capital by acquiring Oasis Security, an enterprise access management platform designed for AI agents, in a transaction reportedly valued at approximately $1 billion.

Regarding public market entries, consumer digital security provider Aura stood out as the sole major venture-backed debut. The Boston-headquartered startup finalized the acquisition of Qoria, an Australian public company, in July before rebranding the merged entity as Aura.

Overall, an upbeat quarter

Ultimately, Crunchbase financing metrics signal a positive climate for cybersecurity startup investments. This outcome aligns with continuous reports highlighting the threats associated with rapidly evolving AI technology.

While the current climate may feel unsettling for many, cybersecurity entrepreneurs face a constantly widening landscape of threats to neutralize. Observers will continue monitoring the upcoming quarter to determine whether this investment momentum persists.
