Insights From Anthropic’s IPO Paperwork
Anthropic's S-1 filing reveals rapid revenue growth alongside significant net losses and extensive risk disclosures in its paperwork for what could be the largest initial public offering in history.

In an S-1 filing submitted today ahead of what might become the largest initial public offering in history, Anthropic provided comprehensive new insights regarding its financial performance, growth trajectory, major stakeholders, and potential future risks.
Spanning 335 pages, the paperwork is dense. Still, following an initial review, several of the most fascinating disclosures stand out below:
Revenue growth is unusually rapid
Anthropic recorded $16.3 billion in revenue during the first half of this year, representing a 14-fold increase compared to the same timeframe in 2025.
Momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Although the S-1 filing omits projections for the second half of the year, Reuters indicated that Anthropic might achieve an annualized revenue run rate of $110 billion by the close of the year, referencing analysts who spoke with company leadership.
But losses persist
For the opening half of 2026, Anthropic registered an operating income loss of $693 million, which marks a reduction of roughly two-thirds compared to the prior year. Meanwhile, the net loss for the first half of the year reached $80 billion, with roughly 90% of that figure resulting from what the firm described as a “change in fair value of convertible notes, derivative liabilities, and SAFEs.”
Founders hold similar stakes
According to the S-1, each of Anthropic’s seven co-founders possesses between 230,000 and 246,000 shares of Class A stock. Such a balanced distribution is uncommon, as corporate prospectuses typically reveal a founding chief executive officer maintaining a significantly larger equity share relative to the other co-founders.
The enterprise’s co-founders comprise Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Tom Brown, Jack Clark, Jared Kaplan, Sam McCandlish, and Christopher Olah.
Anthropic’s risk factors take up 93 pages of its IPO filing
Naturally, the question arises: is putting money into Anthropic a hazardous venture?
Anthropic clearly believes so, dedicating an astonishing 93 pages of its IPO prospectus entirely to risk factors, stretching from page 27 through page 120.
Certain concerns are relatively standard. For example, the business worries that deceleration in revenue growth could limit its capacity to finance frontier artificial intelligence research as well as recruit and keep elite personnel. Having accumulated substantial debt thus far, leadership remains concerned about maintaining debt service capabilities while simultaneously funding daily operational expenses.
Conversely, more unconventional hazards—such as rogue artificial intelligence agents—are also included. One section of the filing points out that “future models are expected to demonstrate capabilities that could provide meaningful assistance to malicious actors seeking to develop chemical, biological, or other dangerous weapons.”
